Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions likely to continue over East and south Peninsular India during the next 5 days, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday.
In the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections coinciding with the summer, Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, Nikunja Dhal said that the authorities were aware of the possible heatwave condition during the polling period and the mission is zero casualty in heat waves.
"If you talk about the last five-six days, there were heatwave conditions that were prevalent in South Peninsular India, specifically, the areas were North interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. There was a heat wave in these states," Naresh Kumar said speaking to ANI on Tuesday
As the country battles scorching heat and the arrival of summer, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a possible heatwave in multiple states across South India.

India, this year, experienced the third-highest instances of heatwave and severe heatwave conditions in the last 23 years, after 2019 and 2022, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.
According to the sources, the meeting will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, wherein Union Health Minister will chair the meeting to review the situation caused due to heatwave conditions in the country.
On Saturday, Odisha's Sonepur recorded the highest day temperature at 45.6 degrees Celsius. Bhubaneshwar recorded the highest day temperature at 44.6 degrees Celsius,
While speaking to ANI, IMD Scientist Umashankar Das said, "We are expecting hot weather conditions and heat wave conditions to continue for the next three days. Apart from that, several places in Odisha will experience above normal temperatures by 4-6 degrees."
