While speaking to ANI, the foreign minister emphasized that India is not only a neighbour but also played a vital role in Bangladesh's independence war.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with his Bangladesh counterpart Hasan Mahmud on wide-ranging areas of bilateral relations, including defence and economic cooperation, as well as people-to-people exchanges.

Notably, this is Mahmud's first foreign visit after being sworn into the new Bangladesh government following Sheikh Hasina's historic victory, securing a consecutive fourth term as Prime Minister.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud will be visiting India on February 7-9 at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday.
