A severe windstorm accompanied by thundering hailstorms and heavy rainfall caused destruction across the Kalakote sub-district of Rajouri on Thursday evening, leaving dozens of families homeless and widespread property damage in its wake.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday assured citizens that the state government is prioritising their safety following reports of storms, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and lightning across several districts.
As per details, the storm, with lightning and strong winds, brought down walls and caused fatal incidents across the northern part of the country, as per ARY News.
Due to recent weather fluctuations over the past 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorm in four districts of Himachal Pradesh, while Yellow Alerts have been issued for four other districts.
During the meeting, CM Yadav noted that information was received about hailstorm damaged crops in over 400 villages in the state. Following which, he directed the officials to conduct immediate surveys and provide relief funds to farmers affected.
In line with the directions of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Kshtipurti portal has been opened to facilitate farmers in uploading information regarding the crop loss caused by recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms, said a press statement.
The Churu district in Rajasthan, which is part of the Great Indian Thar Desert, witnessed heavy rainfall and hailstorms. The landscape turned white in Bhanipura, Bisarasar, Rajasar, and Sardarshahar, with hailstones the size of jujubes (fruit).
The Meteorological Department also noted that a major cloud mass, associated with a western disturbance, is moving away from the Indian region. As a result, weather activity is expected to reduce from today in northwest India.
Torrential rains and hailstorms in Jalalabad city and nearby areas of Nangarhar province have claimed at least 35 lives, leaving 230 people injured, reported Khaama Press reported Tuesday.
On May 5, a severe hailstorm hit large swathes of Manipur, causing extensive damage to more than 48,000 houses, a number of infrastructures, and agricultural lands and crops across 16 districts.
