Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is a sacred festival that marks the birth of the first guru of Sikhism - Guru Nanak Dev. The auspicious occasion is observed on the full moon date of Kartik month or Kartik Purnima every year.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday offered prayers at Gurudwara Baba Zorawar Singh Ji Baba Fateh Ji Singh in Degloor city of Nanded district of Maharashtra on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.
PM Modi expressed his happiness for having the opportunity to celebrate key Prakash Parvs such as 350th Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh, 400th Prakash Parv of Guru Teg Bahadur and 550th Prakashotsav of Guru Nanak Dev.
PM Modi offered prayers to Guru Nanak Dev and also addressed the gathering on the occasion. Meanwhile, the Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar has greeted the nation on the eve of Guru Nanak Dev's birthday.
In his message to the nation, Dhankhar stated "I convey my hearty greetings and good wishes to the people of our country and those living abroad, on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji."
Indian Sikh pilgrims who will travel to Pakistan would visit Dera Sahib, Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib. Indian pilgrims return back to India on November 15.
