In two separate operations conducted this week, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 23.34 kg of smuggled foreign gold valued at Rs 14.43 crore through Chennai International Airport and foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign gold into the country.
Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department has seized 3038.79 grams of gold worth Rs 1.4 crores at Kochi airport in two instances, said a statement on Wednesday.

"More than 1 kg of gold was recovered in possession from a passenger at Guwahati airport. A passenger hailing from Manipur was carrying gold in luggage. Later he was caught by CISF while the bag was running through an X-Ray machine," the customs official told ANI.
Foiling a smuggling effort, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized gold biscuits worth Rs 36 lakh smuggled from Bangladesh to India in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Monday.
According to the customs, the male passenger arrived at Hyderabad from Dubai and on thorough scanning of his baggage, gold weighing 455 gms having a value of 21,20,180, concealed in the form of screws and rods (64 screws and 16 rods) of trolley wheels has been recovered.
A passenger, who arrived from Colombo, was intercepted at Chennai airport on Monday for carrying gold weighing 697 grams valued at Rs 35.81 lakh, Chennai customs said.
