A passenger, who arrived from Colombo, was intercepted at Chennai airport on Monday for carrying gold weighing 697 grams valued at Rs 35.81 lakh, Chennai customs said.
Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs department seized foreign currency valued at Rs 55.83 lakh at Chennai airport on Thursday and nabbed two passengers carrying the foreign currency, said the official Twitter handle of Chennai customs.
During the examination of the said passenger, 4 capsules of gold in a compound form totally weighing 1063 grams concealed inside his body were recovered and seized.
In a joint operation, teams of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Customs arrested two persons and seized 40 pieces of gold worth Rs 2.82 crore along the India-Bangladesh border.
Thwarting a smuggling bid, the Customs Air Intelligent Unit, Delhi recently arrested two persons and seized gold, valued at over Rs 1 crore, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
"During the examination of the said passenger, 3 capsules of gold in compound form weighing 873.98 grams concealed inside his body were recovered and seized," officials said.
