The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday apprehended a smuggler and seized 45 gold biscuits weighing 5.24 kg worth Rs 3.07 crores at Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
According to officials, the Intelligence Branch of BSF, on Thursday, informed the Company Commander of Border Outpost Baijnathpur that some smugglers could carry out gold smuggling from the area of Border Outpost Baijnathpur.
"The seized gold weighs approximately 1165 grams and 705 milligrams, with an estimated value of Rs 70,44,325. The disposal of seized gold has been done as per procedure, the BSF release said.
According to officials, the estimated value of seized gold biscuits is Rs1.26 crore. The biscuits were recovered from a man and woman during a search carried out jointly by GRP and Revenue Intelligence on Tuesday.
"On May 27, 8-10 people posing as Income Tax officials stole 17 gold biscuits, worth Rs 60 lakh, from a shop named Siddhivinayak in Monda Market. The 4 accused persons have been arrested. Seven gold biscuits have been recovered from them. Other accused are at large but will be arrested soon,
In the first operation, police conducted an operation at Namdoboka Pathar area under Doboka police station in Nagaon district and arrested three persons.
