Telangana Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao on Monday held a crucial meeting with the Managing Director (MD) of Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), state government marketing department officials, and ginning millers to discuss cotton procurement in the state.
Pakistan's cotton production dropped 30% this year, mainly due to a 47% decline in Sindh, according to the PCGA. Punjab saw a slight rise, but rains hurt cotton quality, causing losses for ginners. A new moisture policy was introduced to support farmers, Dawn reported.
As per Dawn, ginning data shows that the cotton harvest declined by a hefty 34 per cent this year from 7.44 million bales the previous year, mainly because of the catastrophic summer floods in Sindh and southern Punjab where this industrial crop is mostly grown.
