Three people are dead and eight were injured in a landslide in the Chidwasa region of Rudraprayad district of Uttarakhand on Sunday. The incident occurred on the Kedarnath Yatra route this morning when the devotees were on their way to Kedarnath Dham from Gaurikund on foot.
Rudraprayag Police, Uttarakhand, shared information on X and posted, "The Rudraprayag Gaurikund NH 107 is blocked in the Doliya Devi (Phata) area. Efforts are underway to open the road."
Amid the preparations for opening the portals, popular tourist sites such as Sonprayag and Gaurikund are drawing huge crowds, with the majority of them heading in the direction of the Kedarnath Dham.
According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) they recieved information from Sonprayag police station that a fire broke out in a hotel's canteen in Gaurikund due to explosion of a gas cylinder and that SDRF team is required for relief and rescue operations.

The Guptkashi-Gaurikund highway leading to Kedarnath Dham has been completely blocked for traffic due to falling rocks and debris from the top hill near Tarsali under Chowki Phata, said officials, adding that here, about 60 meters of the road has been badly damaged and washed away.
"Due to heavy landslide near Gaurikund Datpulia, no clue could be found for the 20 missing people even on the fourth day," the Rudraprayag Police said.
Uttarakhand police on Sunday informed that three people have died and the search operation for the missing persons is still underway after a landslide at Gaurikund.
