Seventeen people were hospitalized following a hazardous ammonia gas leak at a food processing factory in the Yavat area of Pune district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Kurraha village under the jurisdiction of Gadhi Malhara police station area in the district on Friday morning. The deceased were identified as Sheikh Altaf (21), Sheikh Aslam (37), Sheikh Wasir (65) and Munna Kushwaha (45), the police said.
29 women, including five from Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu and 16 female employees from Odisha State, fainted due to an ammonia gas leak in Nila Sea Puts private fish processing plant on Friday.
"Acting on the same, after informing the fire service, police reached the spot and extinguished the fire at the house, rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital for treatment. 3 individuals died during treatment and the other 4 are undergoing treatment," he informed.
The official shared details about the incident and said that two chlorine cylinders were kept in the store, one of which was leaking. There is no report of any casualties. The situation is under control.
