After recent attacks on merchant vessels off the Indian coast, the Navy has deployed task groups comprising 'destroyers' and 'frigates' to have a complete maritime domain awareness in the region, officials said on Sunday.
The ship is part of the Project P17A initiative undertaken by the Indian Navy and is being constructed by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE). President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to launch the frigate on August 17, 2023.
Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sahyadri (Frigate class) and INS Kolkata (Destroyer class) are on a goodwill visit to Papua New Guinea and will be docked at Port Moresby from August 2-4.
