Forest officials arrested five individuals on Thursday for illegally possessing a two-toed sand boa (Eryx johnii), a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act, in Payyannur, Kerala's Kannur district, a release from the Forest Department stated.
Officials said that the villagers had gone to the forest to collect wood and bushes. The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Usendi and the injured as Ramlal Korram.
