As heavy rains continued to lash parts of Northeast India, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Fire Service launched extensive rescue operations in flood-affected areas, rescuing over 1,500 people across various districts.
Atleast 10 people have died in Assam due to drowning, with two more people, including a child drowning in Assam's Cachar and Sribhumi district on Sunday.
The Assam government on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in landslides in Guwahati following the heavy rainfall that lashed the city and other parts of the state in the last couple of days.
"Incessant rainfall over the past two days has led to severe flooding across various parts of West Tripura district. As a result, nearly 1,300 families have been shifted to government shelter homes for safety. The state government is closely monitoring the flood-affected areas," Tripura C
The rainfall activity was triggered by a trough at mean sea level stretching from East Uttar Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh and a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam at about 0.9 km above sea level.
The District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), led by Incident Commander and Additional Deputy Commissioner Lalrinzuala, convened an emergency meeting to coordinate relief and response efforts.
