Switzerland defeated Serbia 3-2 in an electric encounter on Friday to finish second in Group G and advance to the World Cup knockout round at Stadium 974 on Saturday.
The Swiss team made it to the knockout stage for the third time in a row and will now lock horns with Portugal in the round of 16 clashes on December 7.
A late strike from Vincent Aboubakar in the second minute of the additional time saw Cameroon take the lead which guided them to a win eventually. The team became the first African nation to register a win against Brazil in the World Cup.
Brazil made nine changes from the last game and only two were retained by their coach, with experienced Dani Alves becoming the oldest player at 39 years and 210 days to represent Brazil in the World Cup. Alves stepped onto the pitch as the captain of the side.
Following a 0-0 tie with Croatia, Belgium was eliminated from the group stage, placing third behind the Croatians and group winners Morocco. Belgium would have advanced to the round of 16 if they had won their last group encounter.
The win however could not save the four-time champions from an early departure as Germany suffered its second straight exit. They had also failed to reach the 2018 edition's round of 16.
Japan made a spirited recovery in the second half to find the back of the net twice and then defended superbly to hand Spain their 1st defeat of the tournament. The Asian team stormed to the Round of 16 while Spain also advanced despite the loss, after ending in the second position of Group
Morata found the back of the net for Spain in the 12th minute after he went airborne to head the ball off a cross from right-back Cesar Azpilicueta to put the Spanish team ahead.
With this, Argentina end their group-stage campaign with six points and two wins and a loss. Poland qualifies for the round of 16 as well despite being equal with Mexico in terms of points (4 points) and goal difference (zero) due to less number of yellow cards (five) as compared to Mexico (
Three minutes were added to the first half. The first half was goalless but featured heavily aggressive gameplay from Argentina, some brilliant defending from Poland.
However, despite their win, Tunisia are out of the tournament. They finish at three in the points table with four points, with a win, loss and a draw under their kitty. Meanwhile, France has topped the table with six points with two wins and a loss
