The central government has decided that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) shall offload 50 lakh tonnes of wheat and 25 lakh tonnes of rice in the open market in a phased manner under, the Union food ministry said in a release on Wednesday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Manager, Food Corporation of India (FCI) Bongaigaon (Assam) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the Complainant, an official release said.
Chairman and Managing Director of Food Corporation of India Ashok KK Meena said that the central government has directed the agency to conduct the e-auctions of wheat and rice to check the "inflationary trends" and to control the price of such staple foodgrains.
He said that after the Congress-led government announced the implementation of the Scheme in the state on June 2, the Centre asked the FCI to ban the sale of rice to the states.

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar on Friday, announced a protest on June 20 against the BJP-led central government across the state for centre allegedly discontinuing the sale of rice to state to scuttle the government's 'Anna Bhagya' guarantee scheme providing free rice.
