Pakistan's former federal minister, Fawad Chaudhry, was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday in corruption charges, Geo News reported.
It reported that the former minister was presented before the judicial magistrate where the judge reserved its verdict and sent Fawad on a one-day physical remand under anti-corruption authorities.
In his petition, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan stated that ECP did not have jurisdiction to start contempt proceedings. He called the secret trial in prison a violation of Article 4 of the Constitution.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the doctor allegedly involved in the scandal. The arrested individuals are expected to face legal consequences for their involvement in the illicit kidney trade.
An accountability court in Lahore on Saturday acquitted Pakistan's former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and others in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme case.
Fawad, who is currently a member of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party, was taken into custody after a police raid on his residence in Islamabad, police sources told Dawn.
