Strong rooms have been opened at the counting center in Erode, Tamil Nadu, as the vote counting begins for the Erode (East) Assembly by-election. Security has been heightened at the centre to ensure a smooth process.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader MK Stalin on Saturday held a mega rally in the area in favour of DMK-backed Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan and said that the byelection will check the weightage of the Dravidian Model government.
Erode (East) Assembly by-election is to be held on February 27, the last date of nomination is on February 7 and the result will be declared on March 2
The Congress' announcement came as a surprise as Elangovan stated on Saturday that he would not contest the bypoll but sought the ticket for his son Sanjay Sampath.
As per the July 11 general council meeting of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Palaniswami has been elected as the interim general secretary of the party now.
The party accepted the AIADMK's wish considering the present political situation in Tamil Nadu as the party aims to ensure the victory of the alliance, GK Vasan said in a statement on Friday.
