Alleging that there is "Gunda Raj" in Jammu and Kashmir, People's Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti was detained on Wednesday in the national capital during a protest against the administration's anti-encroachment drive in the Union Territory.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted the Indian Railways authorities and Uttarakhand government eight weeks' time to work out a solution in relation to the rehabilitation of the people who were asked to vacate the encroachments from railway land in Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani.
Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference chief Sajad Lone on Monday hit out at the administrtation over the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the Union Territory, saying the drive would only result in more people being rendered homeless.

The incident took place in Jhitarkhedi village under Ghatiya police station limits in the district on Friday afternoon. Locals allegedly pelted stones at police vehicles and earth moving machines deployed in the area damaging their windshields.
The High Court also issued directions to the Land and Development Office (L&DO) and MCD to demolish the unauthorised construction and remove the encroachment on the government land in question.
"Without strict legal controls, population explosion leads to a sharp increase in unemployment, price rise, environmental destruction, encroachment and eventually civil war. We should learn from Serbia and Sudan," Chowdhury added.
The Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Friday ordered for framing of charges against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan and 24 others for allegedly blocking an anti-encroachment drive carried out by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in Madanpur Khadar area of Delhi.
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought a status report from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on the parking facility in Lajpat Nagar Central Market in view of traffic congestion.
As the 'anti-encroachment drive' against the accused involved in the case raised eyebrows, the authority claimed that it was removing illegal portions of the house.
