An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the general area of Chhatru in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.
According to officials, the encounter broke out around 8 p.m. when alert troops of the White Knight Corps established contact with a group of terrorists in the region.
The operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Bihali area of Basantgarh.
An exchange of fire was reported between Security forces and terrorists in Singhpora area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtawar on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to chair a high-level security meeting in the national capital on December 19, official sources said.
On Monday, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Air Force Station in Jammu to pay homage to Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar who lost his life during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police along with 22RR and 92 BN of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday apprehended one terrorist associate identified as Ashiq Hussain Wani who is a resident of Tujar Shareef in J-K's Sopore, said police.
