This came in the wake of a recent Punjab and Haryana High Court directive in the Mahmoud Pracha vs ECI case, where the court ordered the sharing of all documents related to the Haryana Assembly elections, including CCTV footage under Rule 93(2) of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Saturday demanded a reversal of purported changes in Conduct of Election rules by the BJP-led government and said it shows "they have a lot to hide, and want to keep the public in the dark about how the electoral process is functioning".
The Opposition raised concerns that the change could disproportionately benefit the ruling party, giving it undue influence over the electoral process in states, and could undermine the autonomy of regional parties.
