Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday hailed the Supreme Court's decision to allow him to continue as the AIADMK general secretary and said that the judgment has confirmed the former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's remark that the party will rule for 100 years.
The supporters of the Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) faction burst into celebrations in Tamil Nadu's Chennai as Supreme Court on Thursday allowed him to continue as AIADMK's Interim General Secretary.
The Supreme Court on Thursday affirmed the Madras High Court division bench decision that restored Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) as the AIADMK party's single leader while rejecting O Panneerselvam's plea allowing EPS to continue as the party's Interim General Secretary.
On January 11, the apex court bench reserved its verdict on a batch of pleas relating to the tussle between former Chief Ministers O Panneerselvam (OPS) and Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) over AIADMK leadership.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidate from the Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) faction, KS Thennarasu on Tuesday filed his nomination for the Erode East by-election.
ECI also approved the AIADMK Presidium Chairman Tamilmagan Hussain to sign in forms A and B and also authorised candidates to contest on behalf of AIADMK on the two-leaves symbol.
EPS faction has circulated forms to get the approval of the General Council members for former MLA Thiru K S Thennarasu's candidature for the Erode (East) constituency.
"A candidate who is well known in the constituency, EPS candidate KS Thennarasu is a two-time MLA and we want someone who will be the right person to win. We requested O Panneerselvam to also support the Edappadi Palaniswami's candidate," Annamalai said
BJP Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai made the remark while addressing a press conference in Chennai. He earlier in the day met with the AIADMK leaders O Panneerselvam (OPS) and Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS).
Leaders of Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) faction did not talk to the media after the meeting and said "everything went well". Panneerselvam said it was courtesy meeting.
AIADMK MLAs, led by former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, on Wednesday reached the Tamil Nadu Assembly in black shirts as a mark of protest against the DMK government and Speaker Appavu.
