Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra on Monday skipped the Directorate of Enforcement (ED)'s summons issued against her last week in connection with irregularities in a foreign exchange contravention case.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not appear before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) for questioning in connection with an excise policy case linked to money laundering, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources said on Monday.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appeared on Saturday via video conferencing before the Rouse Avenue Court following a complaint by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) over his alleged non-compliance of its summons.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday summoned Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra to appear before it on February 19 in connection with irregularities in the foreign exchange contravention case.
ED further stated that, in order to unearth the role of others, including that of the respondent and to trace further proceeds of crime, further investigation is ongoing for which the respondent namely Arvind Kejriwal was called for investigation on numerous occasions.
"We are studying the court order and will take action as per the law. We will inform the court how all Enforcement Directorate summons were illegal," AAP said.
Meenakshi Lekhi further said that ED sent five summons to Kejriwal and he still did not go for questioning. The health of any state is its backbone but here they have tried to weaken it.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for ED, apprised the Supreme Court that she was not appearing despite being summoned, and interim relief was granted until the next date.
Slamming Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for skipping the ED summons, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Sunday said that the AAP chief should face the situation instead of running away.
