The Centre on Wednesday urged the Supreme Court to extend the tenure of Enforcement Directorate Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra till October 15, in view of the ongoing Financial Action Task Force (FATF) review.
"This is a big setback for the government. The head of a powerful agency like the ED has been declared illegal. The motive to give an extension has been questioned by the SC verdict," Bhardwaj said.
Amicus Curiae KV Vishwanathan on Thursday submitted before the Supreme Court that the Committee failed to consider the availability and suitability of other officers before taking a decision on the extension of tenure of the director of Enforcement Directorate.
The Centre has defended its decision to extend the tenure of the Enforcement Directorate director and said that petition challenging it is motivated and urged the top court to dismiss the plea.
The plea was filed by the General Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee Jaya Thakur through advocate Varun Thakur and advocate Shashank Ratnoo.
