The ruling National People's Party (NPP) in Meghalaya was leading in 4 out of the 59 Assembly constituencies while the United Democratic Party is leading in two seats, according to the latest trend shared by the Election Commission on Thursday.
A Supreme Court Constitution Bench will pronounce its order on various petitions seeking reform in the process for the appointment of members of the Election Commission of India on Thursday.
Replying to CJI queries, Senior Advocate NK Kaul said that there is nothing wrong with it as there cannot be a headless government in the state and BJP has supported the camp, with whom they have a pre-poll alliance.
The Election Commission of India has set up 13 counting centres for the counting of votes for the Meghalaya assembly elections on March 2 and adequate security measures have been taken across the state.
"The poll is going smoothly, we are monitoring the process. There are 238 polling booths with micro-service in place and in vulnerable polling stations there is Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for security," the District Collector added.
The voter turnout of over 44.73 per cent was recorded till 1 pm in the ongoing polling for 59 assembly constituencies, the Election Commission informed on Monday.
