Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th East Asia Summit on further strengthening of ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and presented a 12-point proposal for strengthening cooperation covering connectivity, digital transformation, trade and economic engagement.
Regarding the inclusion of the African Union as a member in the G20, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday said that he would be very happy to see them as a member.
Bangladesh President said, “Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina sheltered 1.2 million forcibly displaced people from Myanmar on humanitarian grounds. Even in the 7th year of the crisis, there is no solution in sight where Bangladesh is pushed to the limits.”
On the 2023 edition of the so-called "standard map" of China, Indonesia Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto said that there are authorities studying the situation.
As the 18th East Asia Summit began in Jakarta on Thursday, Indonesia's President Joko Widodo thanked the leaders of the East Asia Summit for making it a forum for all in order to strengthen cooperation.
In his address, PM Modi congratulated Indonesian President Joko Widodo for organising the Summit and said, "Our partnership has reached the fourth decade. It is an honour for me to co-chair this Summit. I want to congratulate Indonesian President Joko Widodo for organising this Summit..."
The Indian diaspora displayed their enthusiasm by waving the Tricolour and chanting "Modi Modi" and "Vande Mataram", "Humara Neta Kaisa Ho, Narendra Modiji Jaisa Ho..." (What kind of leader should we have? should be like Modiji), and "Har Har Modi, Har Ghar Modi." slogans.
PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Jakarta International Airport. He was received by I. Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection.
"I will also take part in the 18th East Asia Summit, which focuses on important developmental sectors like healthcare, environment and digital innovations," he added.
