Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Justice DY Chandrachud on being sworn in as India's Chief Justice and wished him a fruitful tenure ahead.
Lauding CJI Justice UU Lalit, Chandrachud said that Justice Lalit has raised the bar for the Chief Justice and that he has large-size shoes to fill as the next Chief Justice of India.
CJI Lalit said that his journey in the Supreme Court began by mentioning a case before Justice YV Chandrachud and now he passes the baton to his son, DY Chandrachud.
CJI Lalit said addressing the members of bar said, "My journey in this court began in Court 1. I came here to mention a case I was appearing in before CJI YV Chandrachud. My journey now ends here, where I am passing on the baton to Justice DY Chandrachud."
Justice Chandrachud will take oath as the 50th Chief Justice of India on November 9 as current CJI UU Lalit will demit his office on November 8 after having a brief tenure of 74 days as the head of India's judiciary.
