Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah thanked the Supreme Court on Friday for ordering the release of drought relief assistance from the Union Government for the 2023 drought.
Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Bengaluru, Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Tuesday staged a protest over drought relief to be provided by the central government at Vidha
"Thanks to the intervention of the Hon. Supreme Court, the Central Government, which had delayed providing drought relief funds to the farmers of Karnataka, has agreed to make a decision within this week," the tweet added.
On Karnataka State's plea in the Supreme Court seeking financial assistance for drought relief, Karnataka minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that the Government of India has agreed to take a decision within this week.
"Finally, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has delivered justice to our farmers by directing the Union government to release the drought relief fund of Rs18,172 crore to the drought-stricken farmers of Karnataka within a week," Rao said in a post on 'X'.
The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that they will resolve expeditiously the issues related to Karnataka govt plea seeking financial assistance for drought relief and something will happen by April 29.
"Some primary issues are clear, North Bihar is often battered by flood. South Bihar suffers drought; we want South Bihar to get permanent relief from drought. Corridor of Budh and Vishnu should be built in Gaya," the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) leader said.
