Addressing a public meeting in West Bengal on Friday, Giri made an offensive remark on the President's appearance while lashing out at Leader of Opppsition in Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari.
Union Tribal Affair Minister Arjun Munda on Saturday came down heavily on the TMC government in West Bengal and demanded an apology from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the derogatory remarks uttered by TMC leader Akhil Giri against President Droupadi Murmu.
A group of BJP workers also staged a protest against remarks made by the TMC minister Akhil Giri on the President of India Droupadi Murmu.
The protesters, holding placards in their hands raised slogans against the minister and also burnt an effigy of him while criticising the TMC government
Akhil Giri made the objectionable remarks against the President of India on Friday while talking about West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari following an incident of unrest in the BJP leader's Nandigram constituency over the Martyrs' Day event.
"This is an irresponsible comment and does NOT represent the views of @AITCofficial. We are extremely proud of the President of India, and hold her and her office in the highest regard," Saket Gokhale, an official spokesman with the TMC, said in a tweet on Saturday.
