US Defence Secretary Lloyd J Austin III met with his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun on Friday in Singapore and expressed concern regarding the recent provocative activities by China's People's Liberation Army around the Taiwan Strait.

The tense US-China relationship has been in the limelight and is expected to be at the centrestage of the Shangri-La dialogue, which is set to begin today in Singapore, Politico reported.
China said the "military collusion" between the US and Taiwan as well as the "separatist acts" of the "Taiwan independence forces", are the main sources of disruption to the current stability in the Taiwan Straits.
In the meeting held via videoconference on Tuesday, Austin stressed the importance of keeping military-to-military communication lines between the US and China open, it said.
