Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday lashed out at the BJP as a "cultureless party" which patronised Bombay Boys and whose party member assaulted a woman in the Vidhana Soudha.
Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said, "The government has planned to organise Cauvery aarti at Sankey tank along with the water conservation campaign. This is purely a government programme, but some have moved court. We will argue our case in the court of law."
Dismissing allegations of vendetta politics, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday said the government officials had followed the orders of a court in the encroachment case against Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
The Karnataka state cabinet approved an amendment to the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act, which aims to provide 4 per cent reservation in tenders to Minority contractors, official sources said.
Speaking to the media today, he asserted that BJP's stance is clear. "If the bill granting 4% reservation for Muslims is introduced in the assembly, BJP will launch a fierce protest both inside and outside the house. We will not allow its implementation," he said.
Asserting that BJP is not against Muslims, Bharatiya Janata Party Karnataka President BY Vijayendra on Monday said that the BJP will oppose Congress's Muslim "appeasement politics."
Calling the Karnataka government's approval of a 4 per cent minority quota in contracts as "anti-constitutional and anti-democratic," BJP MLC N Ravikumar said that the BJP will raise the issue in both the Houses on Monday.
Speaking to reporters at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee's office, Shivakumar said, "The reservation of contracts for minorities is only up to Rs 2 crores. In the past, similar arrangements were done for SC/STs. This is for all minorities and not just for Muslims."
Reddy added that the Congress government in Karnataka believes in "serving people" without regard to their religion, language, or caste. She said that the BJP was "jealous" of the good works being carried out by the state government.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also holds the portfolio of Bengaluru Development, today said that the government was planning to hike the water tariff by one paise per litre, according to the DK Shivakumar office statement.
