The Election Commission on Saturday issued notice to Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar in the context of a complaint received from BJP for a newspaper advertisement alleging "unsubstantiated but specific information".
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday raked up the issue of Tipu Sultan in poll-bound Karnataka and lashed out at Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and SK Shivakumar alleging that they are the "family members" of the ruler of the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore.
"Rahul Gandhi is on bail, Sonia Gandhi is on bail and DK Shivakumar is on bail. Half on bail, half in jail and they talk about corruption", Nadda said.
Union Minister Irani further said that the Congress leader should not make such promises in the State as his party is not winning the May 10 Assembly elections.
"We fight elections based on our programs, they (Congress) fight elections on their promises. It is not right to stir up caste, religion and communal sentiments unnecessarily in elections, this shows the appeasement politics of Congress," CM said.
According to the police, the Congress chief was on his way to Karnataka's Mulabagilu for an election rally. His camera person received minor injuries during the incident.
