Thousands of people in Assam's Bajali, Nalbari, and Barpeta districts have been affected and are taking shelter in relief camps after the flood waters of several tributaries of Brahmaputra river submerged their homes.
"The southwest monsoon hit Odisha's Malkangiri, Koraput and Gajapati districts today and is likely to further advance and cover Odisha in the next two days," the Indian Meteorological Department said in a release.
This came as the India Meteorological Department's regional office in Tamil Nadu issued a yellow alert for some districts in Tamil Nadu from 3 am in the early hours of Tuesday to 10 am in the morning.
India Meteorological Department issued a heavy rainfall warning for the next three hours for Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts.
Odisha's Department of School and Mass Education has directed all the Districts Collectors to reopen the schools, closed due to summer vacation, from Thursday.

"The effect of a heatwave is being seen in various districts of the state for the last few days. In such a situation, concrete arrangements should be made at every level for the protection of common life, livestock and wildlife." CM Yogi said.
Strong gusts and torrential rains struck southern regions, damaging homes and flooding streets and roadways. According to locals, the Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts were hit by heavy downpours when strong winds began to blow in the late afternoon.
