One of the locals identified as Gagan Talukdar said that he with his four family members are now taking shelter on an embankment for the last five days after the devastating flood completely damaged his dream home and other household items, and stuff.
The Principal Secretary said that they have received reports of six deaths, ten injuries, and 303 animal deaths so far. He further added that the loss due to rain is expected to be Rs 3 crore.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 874 villages under 37 revenue circles in Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, and Tamulpur districts are currently underwater.
"Four persons were injured due to lightning in village Kandiyal village under Tehsil Purola of Uttarkashi. One of these persons died," District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said.
Subdivisional Magistrate Puran Singh Rana said that the district administration is taking stock of the damages caused by rainfall. Though no casualties has been reported, the district disaster management team has been alerted, he said.
"A portion of a 3-storey building collapsed in Rajawadi Colony, Ghatkopar (East). Four people have been safely rescued and two people are still trapped inside. Rescue operation is underway," said Rashmee Lokhande, Chief Officer of Disaster Management Department, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corpor
According to the flood reports of ASDMA, one more person died in Nalabri district after drowning in flood water in the past 24 hours taking the death toll to 3 so far.
In Assam's flood-affected regions, 10782.80 hectares of cropland have been submerged by floodwaters, resulting in crop destruction. The flood has also disrupted the supply chain, which in turn has raised the price of vegetables for two consecutive weeks.
