Two more bodies were recovered on Saturday from a rat-hole coal mine at 3 Kilo, Umrangso area, in Dima Hasao district of Assam by a joint rescue team comprising the Indian Navy and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), bringing the death toll to four in the mining accident.

This comes as part of a joint rescue operation of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF teams and other agencies to rescue 9 people who have been trapped in a coal mine at 3 Kilo, Umrangso area here since January 6. Today (January 10) marks the fifth day of the rescue and relief efforts.
The Indian Navy has mobilized a specialized rescue team with deep diving gear and underwater ROVs for the rescue of trapped miners in Umrangso, Assam. The team has arrived and is actively assisting in the operation in Dima Hasao district.
