Raimondo was on her first visit to India as Secretary Commerce. She met with Jaishankar to discuss US-India relations and opportunities for further economic cooperation.
Relations between the two countries have been precarious for many years with regard to issues of cross-border terrorism from Pakistan, even as Islamabad has been seeking the restoration of Article 370.
"The engagements we've had with our Indian partners at the ministerial level, at the leader level, at all levels, have been in furtherance of deepening the already extensive ties between our two countries," said US State Department spokesperson.
Raimondo said she was extremely optimistic. "We've been optimistic for US-India relations," she added. "Our partnership with India is one of our most consequential relationships and I think one of our most promising bilateral relationships, as we look forward."
