The Special Investigation Team on Thursday arrested former Travancore Devaswom Board president A Padmakumar in the Sabarimala gold theft case, officials said. He was the Devaswom Board president in 2019, when the gold theft took place.
Newly appointed Travancore Devaswom Board President K Jayakumar IAS (Retd.) reached Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Sunday as the temple opened for the annual Mandala-Makaravilakku pilgrimage.
Ahead of the pilgrimage, large scale arrangements have been completed in Sannidhanam, Pamba and the trekking routes. Benches have been set up along Chandranandan Road from Marakkoottam to Sannidhanam for devotees to rest.
"It is a fact that there is a crisis of faith among devotees. Recent reports have caused distress, and we cannot allow such a situation to persist. Transparency will be assured in all operations. Any gaps through which lapses have occurred will be eliminated," Jayakumar told reporters.
