Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is a sacred festival that marks the birth of the first guru of Sikhism - Guru Nanak Dev. The auspicious occasion is observed on the full moon date of Kartik month or Kartik Purnima every year.

On Dev Deepawali, almost 21 lakh "diyas" (earthen lamps) lit up Kashi city, of which, crescent shaped banks were illuminated by more than 10 lakh diyas, 84 ghats on the west bank by eight lakh diyas while two lakh diyas were lit on the sands of the east bank.
PM Modi expressed his happiness for having the opportunity to celebrate key Prakash Parvs such as 350th Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh, 400th Prakash Parv of Guru Teg Bahadur and 550th Prakashotsav of Guru Nanak Dev.
PM Modi offered prayers to Guru Nanak Dev and also addressed the gathering on the occasion. Meanwhile, the Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar has greeted the nation on the eve of Guru Nanak Dev's birthday.
The city is geared up to light up once again. From 7:30 pm to 7:45 pm, there will be cream-choreographed fireworks on the sand on the other side of Kashi Vishwanath Dham. The projection moral and laser show will be held at Khet Singh Ghat from 8:00 pm to 9:40 pm.
In his message to the nation, Dhankhar stated "I convey my hearty greetings and good wishes to the people of our country and those living abroad, on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji."
