In a landmark moment for India's maritime sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several transformational projects of Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, worth over Rs1,100 crores, during a grand event held at Bhuj, Kutch on Monday.
Shree Ashapura Stevedores, Ocean Harmony Shipping and Marine Services, Shri Balaji Infraport Pvt Ltd, and Global Fuel Resources LLP (Morbi) are the service providers behind this stellar achievement.
The MV Express Athens, a 350-meter-long container vessel, and MV CSSC LE HAVRE, a 255-meter Baby Cape vessel with a deep draft of 14.15 meters, were launched into the port amid challenging conditions, including strong southwest winds and powerful tidal currents.
KDPA Chairperson Sushil Kumar Singh announced that the port aims to handle 170 million tonnes of cargo, representing a growth rate of over 10%. This new target is expected to redistribute cargo volumes among other ports.
Singh said, "Kandla Deendayal Port Authority has been able to achieve our mission. So, we have taken up this mission of handling 150 million tonnes in 2024-25. We have handled 150.16 million tonnes, so we have been able to achieve our target set by ourselves."
