Amid ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged doctors to return to work and denied offering money to the family of a deceased doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured in the building collapse at Transport Nagar in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Saturday evening.
"The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Hathras, UP. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," the Prime Minister's Office announced in a post on X.
They said the deceased include driver Pradeep Patel from Madhya Pradesh, craftsman W Peter from Manipur, Naik Gursev Singh from Haryana and Subedar K Thangapandi from Tamil Nadu.
Hundreds of People in Kolkatta switched off their lights at their homes and took to the streets on Wednesday night to protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Among the protesters were the parents of the deceased doctor.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced Rs three lakh as ex gratia for the deceased and one lakh for the injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Thoothukudi on Saturday evening.
The opposition leader, Suvendu Adhikari, took to social media to reveal that the deceased, Joydeb Mandal and another person, were carrying dynamite on their motorcycle for illegal mining operations.
