Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday informed that over 50 people have lost their lives within the past 24 hours due to landslides and continuous rainfall in the area. He also expressed concerns that over 20 people are feared to be trapped under debris.

"Twenty to 25 people are trapped under debris here. A total of 21 people have died in the last 24 hours in the state. I appeal to people to stay indoors, to not venture near rivers and landslide-prone areas. Restoration work will begin as soon as rain stops," the chief minister said.
Due to intermittent rains in the Chamoli district, from Sunday night, the Badrinath national highway has been blocked due to debris triggered by a landslide. Many vehicles have been buried under the debris.
Brijesh Bhatt, District Disaster Officer of Tehri Garhwal, said that the Rishikesh-Chamba National Highway-94 is closed due to heavy debris and boulders coming near Bagadhar.
The Guptkashi-Gaurikund highway leading to Kedarnath Dham has been completely blocked for traffic due to falling rocks and debris from the top hill near Tarsali under Chowki Phata, said officials, adding that here, about 60 meters of the road has been badly damaged and washed away.
Due to heavy rain, a wall collapsed near Chaurasi Kutiya in the Laxman Jhula area of Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh in the early hours of Thursday, and two people were buried under the debris, said authorities.
As per the District Police Makwanpur, a woman succumbed after she was pulled alive from the debris while six of her family members have gone missing in Sigre of Bagmati Rural Municipality of the district.
UP Chief Minister office (CMO) informed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the officials of the district administration to take the injured to the hospital immediately for proper treatment.
