Air pollution is the second-leading risk factor for death globally, putting it ahead of tobacco and poor diet, according to the fifth edition of the State of Global Air (SoGA) report.
Amidst prevalent heatwave conditions in the national capital, Lok Nayak Hospital has reported that nine patients were admitted on Wednesday due to heatstroke.
"A total of 22 patients have been admitted to the hospital and five have lost their lives due to suspected heatstroke. 12 patients are on ventilators and in critical situation. The majority of patients are labourers who work in extreme conditions," the hospital official said.
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) MP Indra Hang Subba held a meeting with officials of General Reserve Engineer Force GREF) and Border Road Organisation to access the damages caused by landslides and rains in the state.
Decrying the brutal killing of Abdul Basit and the injury inflicted upon his wife Zakaria, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee on Tuesday said that individuals disguised as robbers entered Basit's house, where they fatally shot him, and injured his wife.
The incident took place when a power supply cable to a neighbouring house fell on the victims' home. A rod supporting this cable bent, causing electrical current to transfer to the tin shed of the victims' house, police officials said.
