Reacting to the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu which has claimed 59 lives so far, Union Minister Virendra Kumar on Tuesday said that the tragedy could have been averted if proper action had been taken against those involved in the incident.

The gunmen attacked church, synagogue, and police post in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala on Sunday, the festival of Pentecost for the Russian Orthodox Church. The places were also reportedly attacked.
As per the information shared by the District Collectorate, Kallakurichi, there were a total of 216 patients admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Subramaniam Ma met with the Kallakurichi hooch victims at the Salem Government Medical College and Hospital and inquired about the treatment being provided to them on Friday.
