Expressing concerns over the "worsening situation" of West Bengal educational institutions, Congress state unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday urged the TMC government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to pass a law against ragging in the state.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has termed the Jadavpur University incident “unfortunate” wherein an undergraduate student died last week and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
Three more people were arrested on Friday in connection with the Jadavpur University student death case, Kolkata police said. The total number of arrests in the case stands at twelve at present.
Referring to the arrest of a Kashmiri boy in the death case of a student from Jadavpur University, West Bengal Assembly LoP Suvendu Adhikari demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation and the National Investigation Agency as it involves multiple states.
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chief Priyank Kanoongo has written to West Bengal Police Director General (DG) Manoj Malviya to initiate necessary action and inquiry into the Jadavpur University student death case asking to submit an action taken report to the comm
"BJP has no right to go Jadavpur University in this case ethically... if we see figures of ragging nationally by the UGC, most of the ragging cases are from UP and MP in medical colleges," Kunal Ghosh said.
Six more people were arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with the Jadavpur University student death case, taking the total number of arrests in the case to nine, police said.
Two more students were arrested on Sunday morning in connection with the Jadavpur University student death case taking the total number of arrests to three, said police.
