Punjab minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday slammed the Union Government for hiking the prices of LPG cylinders. He alleged that the prices of all basic commodities had increased ever since the BJP government came to power.
In a post on X, Stalin accused the BJP-led Central government of hiking excise duty on petrol and diesel prices despite a drop in global crude oil rates, stating that citizens are not asking for a price cut but merely begging for no further increases.
The central government has raised the excise duties on diesel and petrol each by Rs 2 per litre, effective from Tuesday, according to a notification from the Department of Revenue.
"The price per cylinder of LPG will increase by Rs 50. From Rs 500, it will go up to Rs 550 (for PMUY beneficiaries), and for others, it will go up from Rs 803 to Rs 853," the minister said.
"There have been fuel prices hikes and LPG cylinder price hikes in the past by the BJP government at the Centre. Now, the toll prices have been hiked. The BJP never protests against these price rises," he said while speaking to reporters.
