Over three dozen people have lost their lives, and more than two lakh have been affected across the northeastern states due to flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides caused by Cyclone Remal over the past few days.
In response to the ongoing flood situation in Barak Valley in Assam, an additional team from the first Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the kin of each deceased due to the natural disasters in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and West Bengal.

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several parts of Manipur, including Imphal. This occurred after Cyclone Remal triggered continuous rainfall in the state.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for assuring complete support of the Centre in these trying times as the state witnesses natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal.
The Home Minister took detailed information about the situation in all the five north-east states during his separate in separate telephonic conversations with respective Chief Ministers.
Power Department Secretary Abhisek Singh informed that due to proactive measures undertaken by the administration, no human lives have been lost in the disaster.
Security forces deployed for internal security have swiftly responded by providing immediate relief and support to affected citizens. Till date, the forces have successfully rescued over 4000 individuals from affected areas in Manipur, including over 1500 women and 800 children.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday chaired a meeting with Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, security officials and all department officials to review the flood situation in the state.
More than 41,000 people from eight districts of Assam have been affected by floods as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed several parts of the state following the landfall of Cyclone Remal on Sunday night.
