Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday urged people to maintain peace while informing that a high-level inquiry will be conducted to hold those responsible for the violence to account and also act on those who failed to discharge their responsibilities in containing the unrest.

Indian Army and Assam Rifles which were called in to curb violence in Manipur have successfully rescued nearly 23,000 civilians so far and moved them to the operating bases, a statement from the Indian Army said on Sunday.
Violence had broken out in areas of Churachandpur, Imphal and KPI and the Army and Assam Rifles were requisitioned on the night of May 3 and on May 4 according to the Indian Army.

Claiming that the state was infamous for riots earlier, the CM said, "Between 2012 and 2017, more than 700 riots took place in Uttar Pradesh. However, from 2017 till 2023, not a single riot has happened in UP and neither has curfew been imposed in the state."
