While Congress is backing former Supreme Court judge Justice B Sudershan Reddy, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has nominated former Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan.
"Numbers are fine but this voting is done on the basis of one's conscience. The entire country knows that the BJP is a use-and-throw party. The same thing happened with the Vice President, who is missing...The numbers will be in our favour," the SP chief told ANI.
"As a democratic setup, the INDIA bloc will fight the election together. We have requested a conscious vote. The INDIA bloc and all opposition parties will vote against the NDA candidate (CP Radhakrishnan)," Shivakumar told reporters here.
As the voting for the Vice Presidential election began on Tuesday morning, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh exercised his franchise along with other NDA MPs in the Parliament.
Speaking to reporters, Chaudhary said, "Apart from the votes of NDA MPs, other MPs will also vote in favour of NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan. Many MPs of the INDI alliance want to vote for NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan..."
