The Communist Party of India (CPI) welcomed the interim relief granted by the Supreme Court through its order staying certain 'controversial' provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymlaya Bagchi said the direction passed by it last week was only interim in nature, and the issue of the document's validity as proof is still open to be decided in the matter related to the SIR.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that the government should not interfere in Waqf, after the Supreme Court refused to stay the entire law but put on hold certain provisions of it.
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the entire Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, but put on hold certain provisions pending the final adjudication of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Act.
"We are not persuaded to accept the contention that inviting a person of a different faith to inaugurate the event violates the legal or constitutional rights of the petitioners," the court observed.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court's order on staying certain provisions of the Waqf Amendment Act and said that this decision is a major step towards "undoing the unconstitutional" amendments which have been incorporated in the Waqf Amendment Act.
Jagdambika Pal said that while the government would consider the interim stay, the Act was framed after consultations and extensive debates in both Houses of Parliament.
