AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government for its "negligence" after 20 deaths of 20 children in Madhya Pradesh due to taking Coldrif cough syrup, manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a Kanchipuram-based company.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Pune seized stock from Rednex Pharma worth Rs 13 lakhs, following the deaths of 20 children due to cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) sought a list of all cough manufacturing companies from all States. According to the sources, the CDSCO will conduct inspections, testing, and audits of all companies manufacturing cough syrup.

It sought direction from the Centre to set up a National Judicial Commission or Expert Committee to investigate the regulatory failures that allowed the circulation of substandard cough syrups, and to suggest robust measures to prevent such tragedies.
Speaking to reporters in Bhopal on Thursday, CM Yadav said, "In the Chhindwara cough syrup deaths incident, we had constituted an SIT which had nabbed the medicine manufacturing company owner. Our government will not spare the accused, be it anyone, and stringent action will be taken."
