West Bengal has witnessed several instances of violence during the filing of nominations for the panchayat polls and thereafter. One incident involved the alleged hurling of crude bombs at a Block Development Office (BDO) in Ahmadpur, Birbhum district.
"The injured in the Dinhata violence are being shifted to PK Shah Hospital in Coochbehar under the instruction of West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose," said an official.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Saturday met the relatives of the victims in the violence-affected Dinhata, Shimultala, and Cooch Behar areas of North Bengal.
Local BJP leader Ajay Roy said, "Those who have created the ruckus and the person who died came from Bangladesh. There was a scuffle between them regarding the exchange of money and no politics was involved."
As per the information given by Dinhata Police officials, five people received bullet injuries in an inter-party struggle on Tuesday morning, and one individual, identified as Babu Hoque, passed away.
According to the BSF officials, the women were caught by alert troops of the North Bengal Frontier from near the Indo-Bangladesh border of West Bengal's Cooch Behar district.
Talking to ANI, the BJP MLA said, "It is unfortunate that again one of our party members Prashant Basunia has been shot dead by the assailant goons of TMC."
